Today was defiantly an eye opening day. Today when we got to PSU for the Special Olympics, I thought ok this is going to be so boring and I dont want to stand here all day. But, as the day wore one and I got to meet some very intelligent, funny, and emotionally strong and it opened my eyes to a whole community of people that are constanly looked down upon, because they "cant do it" or "arent smart enough." I will never forget this one lady named Deibra (Deibra was a little more sufficent than some of the others and could carry on a long convo). Deibra asked me out of the blue "u like Obama", I said yes, and she hugged me and began to cry, once she stopped crying she looked me straight in the eye and said "God Bless people like you," I so just wanted to ball my freaking head off. Me and Deibra got to go to her other events together, and she won almost all of them. At lunch, time the athletes went to do a craft, while the volunteers and workers ate. When I went down to work the long jump, Deibra's coach stopped me and gave me the craft that Deibra had made and it said "Me and my Obama buddie" I didnt get to see Deibra for the rest of day because she had to leave early. But it showed that these people truly care, and that they are just like you and me, and sometimes they actually do things better than what can do.
Deibra, her coach, and all the other athletes now have a special place in my heart, and I will try my hardest to never say the R word ever again.
